16 Sep 2025: The brown dwarf has been identified as widely separated companion to binary star HD 79555 in 2018-2020, but its discovery as stand-alone substellar object of spectral type L6 dates back to 2006 by Reid et al., whom also found an equal-mass binary companion 2.11 arcseconds away (37.5 AUs at 17.8 pc). This makes HD 79555 (AB)b a circumbinary double brown dwarf.
